New research today reveals that most employees think that dressing smart at work can help you get ahead, talkbusinessmagazine.co.uk reports.

A total of 82 per cent of those conducted in the poll by officebroker.com, found that employees still liked to dress smart, even if their companies had a relaxed dress code policy.

A further 65 per cent of respondents said they would find it easier to respect a colleague or manager if they were wearing a suit in a corporate or family business.

Four hundred male and female workers from the UK were questioned in the survey to find out how to earn respect at work. One participant told the site the it was essential to dress smart as work, commenting: "It proves you take your role seriously and that you are ambitious to progress within the company... if you dress like a slob, then you can't be surprised if people start treating you like one."

A spokesperson for the site commented that the results clearly showed that if you want to get ahead at work, then donning a suit is the best way.

Many companies, including giants such as Facebook and Google, promote a relaxed dress code to encourage creativity amongst their workforce.
