Employers need to fully realise employee potential, claims survey

Only one in ten Brits are 'fully satisfied' with their jobs as a number of workers admit their potential is not fully realised by their employers.

That's according to a study commissioned by Peer 1 Hosting, cited by freshbusinessthinking.com, which suggests that only one in even respondents feel their employer nurtures their talent while only 18 per cent claimed they felt inspired by the work their company does.

In addition, 28 per cent of those surveyed believe their company's customers are "very happy with the products or services that they receive."

However around half of Brits are not motivated by money, according to the survey. What inspires British workers the most is the chance to nurture their talent through personal development, training - for example, leadership training courses could fall under this remit - and external learning opportunities.

Dominic Monkhouse, EMEA MD of Peer 1 Hosting, believes employers should be doing their utmost to realise employee potential.

Commenting on the survey, he said: "Like many businesses in Britain, one of the key factors in our success is the ability to attract and retain talent, but our responsibility doesn't end there.

"This then becomes a virtuous circle - unlocking potential and productivity whilst also making the working environment one that staff value," he added.

Peer 1's survey follows a study by City and Guilds, cited by wsandb.co.uk, which suggests friendly colleagues over financial reward is preferred when it comes to work enjoyment.
