The ethos of Vistage to develop MDs and CEOs to achieve their full potential is powerfully reinforced by members of the Vistage 8 group which celebrates its 18th birthday in 2010.

Launched and chaired by Edward Clifford, whose expertise as a corporate lawyer and strategic partner spans multinationals including Mobil Oil, the 14 members hail from wide- ranging sectors

Aged 36 to 59 members' companies include six family businesses - Bents Garden Centre, Casey Group, Hills Panel Products, Hyman Group, M & I Materials and Oliver Valves. Supporting each other in fully enjoying life, some have been with the group for over a decade - and all keep the spotlight firmly on strategic issues.

Vistage 8 is about “supporting each other in fully enjoying life” .   The aim of the group is to develop and encourage high achievers to realise their potential. Members say they value the benefit of discussing business and personal issues with others with completely different experience.   We try to concentrate on strategic issues.  It is a ‘given’ that members run their companies effectively and set and monitor their own KPIs.

Edwards youngest member, Matthew Bent, Managing Director of Bents Garden Centre, said he joined Vistage to help his personal growth and expand his experience. He was named as one of the North West’s “40 under 40” in Crains Manchester Business Magazine, was the IOD’s Young Director of the Year - Cheshire - 2008.  Bents has won many awards including being voted by the GCA the Garden Centre of the Year 2010 and being named by the GCA the Best Restaurant in the UK 2009.

The group also comprises a number of manufacturers, including: Avanti Blue, Goodlife Foods and Precison Polymer Engineering who value the depth and breadth of collective wisdom and impartiality that each person brings to the monthly meeetings.

Member Elaine Clarke whose company BaaBar operates nine licensed late night bars in Liverpool and Manchester.
